On the Way
The human of the postmodern era, who finds himself disappointed in the foolish idea that the achievements of technological progress will help slow down the ever-too-fast flow of time, the loss of firm spriritual values, roots, the smearing of the visible dividing line between right and wrong, social disintegration, and yet, despite it - hope. All of these belong to the inspirational fields which the author is parabolically calling to mind through painting. The works from the cycle called On the Way are the author’s materialized memories of the places that are important in his life. They are the places he was used to seeing every day in his childhood.
For the viewer, however, the painting is deliberately harder to access by being defocused. Not allowing strict discernment of the details provides the place with a universal character. This is exactly the way we recall our own memories. The defocusing itself, in effect, becomes the author’s programme. The descriptive details disappear and we automatically use our fantasy to fill them in. In this manner, the author forces us to slow down and meditate and lays before us common – yet uncommonly painted – everyday themes.
The paintings of this cycle depict the author’s journey from his native home in Prague-Střešovice out of town, all the way to the family’s country house. It is therefore also possible to understand the title as an expression of the author’s personal seeking and looking back, evaluating.
